Second Graders Explore the United States Through Hands-On Research

Students in Mrs. Fellers’ second grade class are taking a journey across the United States — without ever leaving the classroom.

As part of their social studies learning, students are researching all 50 states and discovering what makes each one unique. They are writing interesting state facts, learning about geography, and exploring history in meaningful ways. Some students are carefully tracing their state’s flag, while others are choosing to draw the flags themselves, adding their own artistic touch.

Once their research is complete, students will color their states and assemble them together into one large puzzle map of the country. To showcase their work, Mrs. Fellers will display the students’ research papers in the hallway, connecting each one with string to its matching place on the giant map.

This creative project brings history and geography to life while encouraging curiosity, teamwork, and pride in learning. According to Mrs. Fellers, the students are absolutely loving the experience — and it shows in the care and enthusiasm they are putting into their work.
